ARB 3/4" Bow Shackle (ARB2014)

The ARB 3/4" Heavy-Duty Bow Shackle is rated to a lifting working load limit of 4.75 tons (the breaking strength is several times that, so the 3/4" Bow Shackle is effectively unbreakable for our intents and purposes). The Shackle features a galvanized finish to resist corrosion, and with red paint on top of the galvanized finish on the clevis pin. Every vehicle that ventures off the pavement should have at least several shackles for recovery use because they are required to rig recovery straps, tree-protection straps, and so on.

Modern technology has enabled the creation of the ARB Soft Connect Shackle, a shackle that is easier to use for most people and can be safer to use. The old steel shackle still works just fine, but the Soft Shackle may probably the way to go if you are putting together a recovery gear kit for the first time. Just know that indisputably the steel shackle has advantages over the soft shackles such as lower cost, smaller size, far greater durability, and greater strength (pretty much invulnerable for our intents and purposes). Steel shackles are especially superior on applications where a soft shackle could be abraded or cut, such as when used with a pulley block. If you are familiar with steel shackles and prefer to use them, they are still available and always will be.
