The Ernst Manufacturing RED Magnetic Socket Organizer With 3/8" Twist Lock Clips is a configurable socket rail that is equally suitable for toolbox and field tool use, and is the finest socket rail you will ever use. The configurability is not mere configurability for its own sake and makes the socket rail much more useful and easier to use than all other designs.
The backbone of the Ernst Socket Organizer System is the 18" socket rail. The rail is fitted with neodymium magnets so that the rail will not shift in your toolbox drawer no matter how many times you open and close the drawer. The magnetic rail also not shift on portable tool carts. The magnets also come into play when working on your vehicle in the field. When you are working under your vehicle, you can stick the socket rail onto the vehicle's undercarriage so that your sockets remain handy and the magnets are strong enough to hold a full rail onto your vehicle. The end of the rail is slotted to allow hanging the rail from a wall.
The socket rails are available in both red and blue colors, which enables color-coding your socket rails for easy identification. John likes to use red to signify inch and blue to signify metric. This way, his socket rails are more easily identified at a quick glance.
The Twist Lock Socket Clips will hold your sockets by gravity alone or will lock your sockets in place by turning the socket 45 degrees clockwise. Nearly all other socket rails hold the sockets by spring pressure, which sucks because you have to pull the socket you want with one hand and hold down the socket rail with the other. In the Ernst system, only one hand is required whether the sockets are held by gravity alone or locked. In gravity mode, simply pull up on a socket to release it from the rail. In locked mode, turn the socket 45 degrees counterclockwise to unlock it and then pull up. There is never a need to hold down the rail with the Ernst system.
Different users will use the Twist Lock Socket Clips differently. For example, John likes to leave all of his toolbox sockets unlocked and be held by gravity alone. However, all of the sockets in John's field tool set are locked to their respective rails so that they will be easily accessed when needed rather than sitting at the bottom of a bag because they fell off the rails. All of the socket rails that use spring pressure to retain the sockets are not strong enough to hold the sockets during transport and will release the sockets. Only the Ernst system with its locking strength will hold the sockets while fourwheeling.
The Twist Lock Socket Clips are easily added to, removed from, and repositioned on the socket rails to suit different socket sizes. Many other socket rails have the pegs fixed in place, which creates many problems:
- wasted space on the rail because the manufacturer understandably errs on the side of having the fixed pegs too far apart rather than too close together
- not being able to fit irregular tools such as crowfoot wrenches because the fixed pegs are spaced for more common tools like sockets
- not accommodating multiple tools of common sizes such as 1/4" or 10mm, where most users have multiple tools such as shallow, deep, flex, crowfoot, etc.
- confusion caused by empty pegs, i.e., is a tool missing or is that empty peg supposed to be empty?
With the Ernst system, the Socket Clips may be repositioned on the rail to eliminate wasted space so you can fit many more sockets onto a given rail size than with other designs. You can even fit irregular or specialty tools such as crowfoot wrenches because the socket clips are not limited to typical socket diameters. For those common socket sizes where you have multiple tools (such as shallow, deep, and swivel), you can configure the socket clips accordingly. And the unused socket clips are removed from the socket rail so there is never any confusion about a possibly missing tool.
The Twist Lock Socket Clips snap onto the socket rail, so additional socket clips may be installed between pre-fitted socket clips without having to remove those clips. Similarly, a socket clip may be removed from the socket rail without disturbing the other socket clips. This makes configuring your socket rails much easier. Some other designs allow the addition and removal of socket pegs, but you have the disassemble half the rail to add or a remove a socket in the middle.
The Blue Magnetic Socket Organizer comes with 18x, 3/8" drive Twist Lock Socket Clips, as well as 96 identification decals for easy socket identification in crowded tool boxes and patent identification of missing tools.
The Ernst Magnetic Socket Organizers are available in the following colors and drive sizes:
- Red Socket Organizer with 1/4" Drive
- Blue Socket Organizer with 1/4" Drive
- Red Socket Organizer with 3/8" Drive
- Blue Socket Organizer with 3/8" Drive
- Red Socket Organizer with 1/2" Drive
- Blue Socket Organizer with 1/2" Drive
In addition to being configurable, the Ernst Socket Organizers can be added onto. If you want to add sockets to a Socket Organizer rail, Ernst offers the Twist Lock Socket Clips Packs in the following drive sizes:
- 1/4" Drive
- 3/8" Drive
- 1/2" Drive
- 3/4" Drive
There is no requirement to stay with a single drive size on a rail because the 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" socket clips will all fit on the same socket rail. This enables the user to organize his sockets by use rather than drive size if he desires.
For organizing your ratchets and extensions on the sides of your Socket Organizer rails, Ernst also offers Side Mount Ratchet & Extension Holders in the following drive sizes:
- 1/4" Drive
- 3/8" Drive
- 1/2" Drive
