The Hults Bruk Grinding Stone is a very portable, pocket-sized waterstone for sharpening your Hults Bruk Almike Hatchet and other cutlery in the field. It is small enough to have with you when using your tools so that you can resharpen them as they dull from use. And the Grinding Stone has a clever design with rustic presentation that is a delight to use, so you will be more likely to keep your cutlery in tip-top condition.
The stone is 3" in diameter and shaped like a waisted puck. The groove around the diameter adds grip and prevents your fingers from the axe's bit. The coarse side of the stone is 180-grit for reprofiling very dull or damaged edges and the fine side is 600-grit for honing to razor sharpness.
The leather cover protects the stone against chipping at the edges and your other tools against abrasion from the stone. The cover snaps closed with a brass snap.
Maintaining your Grinding Stone is very easy. Simply keep the stone wet during use to prevent clogging, and rinse with water and let dry after use. The leather cover may be kept moisturized with Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP or Obenauf's Leather Oil. If maintained in this manner, the Grinding Stone and its leather cover will last a lifetime of hard use and sharpen many, many blades.
Keep all of your cutlery nice and sharp. Not only will your blades be more effective when they are sharp, they will actually be safer to use because they will cut with less pressure than a dull blade and behave much more predictably. There is no single or "best" way to sharpen cutlery, because we all have our different preferences and skill levels. Different sharpening methods will also suit different blade shapes and sizes, and you probably would not use the same sharpening tool on a pocketknife and sword.
