The REYR Gear First Cast 4wt Travel Fly Rod + Reel is a travel fly-fishing rod that fishes at 9' long but reduces to only 19" and with no eyelets or guides on the exterior. Weight is only 10 oz. First Cast has the portability of a Tenkara but the capability of a reel, and can be used in either style. It's compact dimensions and light weight make First Cast an ideal fly rod for activities like bikepacking and fourwheeling.
The rod is constructed from graphite and has a medium action. Otherwise, First Cast throws traditional rod design out the window. First Cast telescopes from 9' deployed to 19" compressed in seven sections. The seven sections do not separate, so there are never any pieces to get lost. There are no eyelets or guides on the exterior and the line travels within the rod so that the line remains rigged at all times and does not need to be threaded through any guides that must first be aligned as on sectioned rods. Simply telescope out the rod and you're fishing. First Cast also takes down and goes into the neoprene case with a fly still tied to the leader, so when needed again, First Cast will go from neoprene case to fishing in about 30 seconds.
The reel is aluminum CNC with adjustable carbon drag and 75mm diameter. The reel is set up for the righty but may be reversed for the lefty. The line is 75' floating. The reel may be detached for reversal or maintenance, but the reel normally stays attached to the rod at all times to dovetail with First Cast's supremely quick and easy deployment without assembly.
