The Rod's Country Camping Gear Eco-Billy 1.5-Liter is a stainless volcano kettle that will boil 1.5 liters of water in only a few minutes using whatever solid fuel is naturally occurring in the area such as sticks, grass, pine cones, bark, etc. To use the Eco-Billy, simply fill the flue with twigs or leaves, fill with water, cover with the lid, and then light the fuel through the intake holes at the bottom. The Eco-Billy's design creates a powerful chimney effect that will become very hot and boil the water in just a few minutes. Most lay people who are unfamiliar with volcano kettles are stunned by the tremendous heat and jet-like effects created by these kettles, and the high surface area of the flue really conducts the heat into the water to boil it quickly.
In camp, it is common to become tightfisted with hot water because of the fuel expended to boil the water and also because boiling water on a standard burner is tedious and uninteresting. All of those issues disappear with the Eco-Billy because the fuel is free and the Eco-Billy is actually fun to use. So after your coffee is done, use the Eco-Billy to generate extra some water for the breakfast dishes, shave, etc. You will find yourself breaking out the Eco-Billy after dinner as well, something you never did with conventional kettles and gas burners. And the Eco-Billy is even more fun to use at night because of the fire show. Eco-Billy is so "eco" that your only consumable involved is fresh water.
Construction is all stainless steel. The pitcher-style handles and lid tab swing closed for compact storage and transport. Dimensions are 12" x 6". Capacity is 1.5 liters and weight is 950 grams.
Comparisons between the Eco-Billy 1.5-Liter and the Kelly Kettle are inevitable. Both designs work very well and boil the same amounts of water very quickly using only twigs and leaves on the ground. Both are Classic Kit that will never be obsoleted or go out of fashion. The Eco-Billy is slightly smaller and will take up less room in your field kitchen. The Eco-Billy is simpler with just the pot and lid while the Kelly Kettle has a separate base, hinged handle, and tethered cork. The Eco-Billy is easier to fill because it does not have to be filled through the pouring spout. The Eco-Billy is also much easier to clean because the lid removes completely and gives full access to the interior. The Eco-Billy's folding handles are stronger, safer to use around fire, and pour just like a standard kettle or pitcher while pouring from the Kelly Kettle is a two-hand arrangement. The Eco-Billy is handmade while the Kelly Kettle costs less.
Also available for the Eco-Billy 1.5-Liter is the Eco-Billy Large Bag.
