The Snow Peak Folding Torch is an evolution of the older GigaPower 2 Way Torch, and the primary difference is the wood handle that hinges open for use and closed for storage and transport. The open handle is easier to use than the older, handle-less GigaPower 2 Way Torch because the user can hold the handle at the balance point rather than the gas canister. Like the GigaPower 2 Way Torch, the Folding Torch has a 14,000 BTU output to light charcoal and campfires, and is equally suitable for use as a torch for field repairs.
The Folding Torch offers the flexibility of being powered by standard isobutane gas canisters like the Snow Peak GigaPower, Kovea Iso-Butane & Propane, and PRIMUS Power Gas systems. A generator within the torch's head permits the unit to operate at full heat immediately after ignition and with the unit inverted. Nylon carry pouch included.
The Folding Torch's wood handle comes unfinished in plain wood. You can continue to use it in its unfinished state or oil it with a penetrative application of a waterproof drying oil like tung oil to protect the wood against water intrusion and deterioration.
To facilitate handling of the Folding Torch near very hot charcoal and wood fires, Snow Peak has available its Fire Side Gloves. The Fire Side Gloves are constructed of leather and have gauntlets that extend well beyond the wrist to protect you from heat, sparks, and embers of burning wood and charcoal. The gloves have a beautiful brown color that will darken and only get better with age. The dark navy fabric liners are secured with Velcro and are removable for washing.
