The Snow Peak Hot Sand Cooker Tramezzino is a panini press for making rustic panini sandwiches in camp, in a field kitchen, and over a field kitchen heat source such as the Snow Peak Takibi Fireplace, Snow Peak Flat Burner, or Snow Peak IGT BBQ Box. To be easy to store and transport, Tramezzino's handles fold and the entire unit measures about 8.5" x 7.5". While compact when folded, Tramezzino weighs a hefty 1.8 lbs. for high heat retention and even cooking. The two halves clamshell open for access and a wire clip locks the two halves together during use. The two halves separate for easy cleaning and also enable Tramezzino to be used as two small frying pans.
Tramezzino is constructed of aluminum (cooking pans), stainless steel (folding handles), and bamboo (ergonomic portion of handles). The pans are made of aluminum because aluminum is a very conductive material and transfers heat very well. The steel handles are very strong and resist bending and corrosion. The bamboo handles make Tramezzino comfortable to hold. In addition to being environmentally friendly, bamboo is considerably stronger than traditional table woods like maple. Bamboo is also warm to the touch and very beautiful. Tramezzino's bamboo handles are unfinished, plain wood. You can continue to use these handles in their unfinished state or oil them with a food-safe oil like Opinel Maintenance Oil to protect the bamboo against water intrusion, warping, and food stains.
