The Snow Peak Teppanyaki Burner's design comes from Asia, where shabu-shabu, hot pots, stews, and Korean Barbeque are commonly cooked at the dining table and then served family style in piecemeal fashion so that every bite is piping hot throughout the entire meal. To suit that end, the Teppanyaki Burner's cooking surface is as low as possible to the table, as well wide open and accessible to all who sit around it so that they do not have to reach awkwardly to grab their next bite.

The primary way to cook on the Teppanyaki Burner is on the 12" steel griddle. The griddle is effectively much larger than a 12" skillet and will hold much more food without crowding because the entire griddle is flat. No, you will not be cooking Benihana Fried Rice for a birthday party of eight on this griddle, but it will still hold quite a lot of food. The griddle is also heavy at 6 lbs. and will distribute the burner's heat as evenly as possible. The griddle is made from carbon steel and should be seasoned and cleaned like any any cast-iron or carbon-steel skillet.

Remove the griddle and the Teppanyaki Burner becomes a gas burner with stainless steel trivet that will support pots up to 12" in diameter and extremely large skillets (which have a smaller flat than the diameter of the skillet). A typical 12" skillet like the GSI GUIDECAST 12 Inch Frying Pan fits with lots of room to spare. The Teppanyaki Burner's very low height makes shabu-shabu easier for those seated at the table.

Black storage and transport bags included.

The Teppanyaki Burner is very large and heavy at 14" in diameter and 11 lbs. in weight. If you fancy tabletop cooking but want a smaller burner, there is the Snow Peak Home & Camp Burner that does not come with a griddle and also folds in a neat way and into a very compact form for easy storage and transport (even in a backpack or tote). While smaller in storage mode, the Home & Camp deployed does not sit as low as the Teppenyaki Burner. However, its butane canister nests within the Home & Camp's body and there is no fuel visible on your tabletop to ruin the presentation.

Snow Peak also has available the Snow Peak Grill Burner Seppo-en, which is similar to the Teppanyaki Burner but also very different. The Seppo-en is considerably taller than the Teppenyaki Burner so it is more clumsy to use as a standard tabletop cooker, but then again the Seppo-en is compatible with the popular Snow Peak Iron Grill Table System (where it would sit flush with the tabletop). The Seppo-en's grill cast-iron pan is very heavy at 6 lbs. and corrugated for those who prefer sear marks while the Teppenyaki Burner's 6 lbs. heavy griddle is smooth for the followers of the Maillard reaction. The Seppo-en's grill pan is shaped like an inverted rooftop with drain holes to drain away fats into a drip tray, while the Teppanyaki Burner's griddle is flat maximum fat. The Teppanyaki Burner and Seppo-en are two different ways of looking at the world.
