The Opinel No.08 Limited Edition Cosmos Dalkhafine Folding Knife is a collaboration between Opinel and the artist Dalkhafine, as a tribute to the cosmos and man's endless fascination with the stars. This knife is similar to the classic Opinel No.08 Stainless Steel Folding Knife, but with a decorated hornbeam handle and a serialized blade.
The cosmos inspires scientists as much as artists, and dreamers as much as explorers. It embodies the connection between humanity and the universe, between the tangible and the elusive, between here and the endless forever. In the immensity of the sky, everyone searches for meaning, emotion, and light. On the No.08 hornbeam handles, artist Dalkhafine imprinted her interpretation of the cosmos:
My illustration pays tribute to the constellation of the Tiger (Tigris in Latin, named after the Tigris River) and that of the Siren, located near the constallation Caeneus. The tiger, powerful and majestic, bows with grace before the siren, whose head radiates like the sun. The sun, sovereign star, is the source of life and light for all that surrounds it. Majestic and vital, it watches over the universese--just as the siren watches over the moon, which she gently cradles. Around them, the stars form a protective consnstellation; a celestial stage for this encounter between earthly strength and cosmic energy.
The blade is made of 12C27 Sandvik Stainless Steel and is 8.5cm long. The blade shape is the classic Yatagan Style that was inspired by a Turkish saber. The grind is an almost imperceptibly convex grind that cuts like a full-flat grind but reflects light in a more beautiful way. The blade is serialized "NoXXXX/8200".
The blade locks in both the open and closed positions via the iconic Virobloc locking system designed by Marcel Opinel in 1955.
The handle is constructed of hornbeam wood and dye-sublimated with Dalkhafine's beautiful artwork on all sides. If you fancy this knife but want another wood type, the Opinel No.08 is also available in the following premium hardwoods:
If you want No.08 but with a carbon steel blade, look at the Opinel No.08 Carbone Steel Folding Knife.
If you want a No.08 but want modern-day features and materials, check out the Opinel No.08 Outdoor Orange Folding Knife.
Dimensions are 11cm folded and 19cm deployed.
Made in France.
This knife may be converted into a fork or spoon with the Opinel Picnic+ Cutlery Insert Set. The fork or spoon inserts fit over the closed blade and are held in place by turning the Virbloc to the left to lock the fork or spoon inserts in place.
Keep your Limited Edition Cosmos Dalkhafine in top working condition with Opinel Maintenance Oil. Maintenance Oil will protect the steel against corrosion and keep the Virobloc turning smoothly. Maintenance Oil will also penetrate the black walnut handle and prevent it from cracking when dry and rotting when wet.
Keep all of your cutlery nice and sharp. Not only will your blades be more effective when they are sharp, they will actually be safer to use because they will cut with less pressure than a dull blade and behave much more predictably.
There is no single or "best" way to sharpen cutlery, because we all have our different preferences and skill levels. Different sharpening methods will also suit different blade shapes and sizes, and you probably would not use the same sharpening tool on a pocketknife and sword. To make the matter even less universal, some prefer to sharpen at home while others sharpen in the field, so the "best" sharpening tools will necessarily differ. Excellent ways to sharpen include:
- Edge Pro Sharpening System
- Hults Bruk Grinding Stone
- Opinel Manual Knife Sharpener
- Opinel Small Natural Sharpening Whetstone from Lombardia
Opinel Part Number - 003234
Universal Product Code - 3123840032349
