I am Nomad. I am perfect.
The Opinel Nomad Cooking Kit With Bottle Opener Knife is "perfect" for outdoor activities like picnicking or bikepacking where food prep is required or wine has to be uncorked, but size and weight limitations come into play. The Nomad Cooking Kit With Bottle Opener Knife includes:
- Opinel No.12 Serrated Folding Knife (12cm blade, 28cm extended length, 16cm folded length)
- Opinel No.10 Corkscrew Folding Knife With Bottle Opener (10cm blade, 23cm extended length, 13cm folded length, folding corkscrew worm in handle)
- Opinel No.6 Folding Peeler (6cm blade, 16cm extended length, 9cm folded length)
- beechwood cutting board (20cm x 12cm x 13mm)
- French Blue microfiber cleaning cloth & jacket
The entire kit weighs exactly one pound and measures 8" x 5" x 2". However, do not let the small dimensions fool you into dismissing this kit's capabilities. The only "small" item in this kit is the cutting board. The peeler is a standard size and the two knives are quite large and capable. Even the No.10 Folding Corkscrew Knife has a blade much larger than nearly all home paring knives, and the No.12 Serrated Folding Knife is larger still. The corkscrew's worm is full-sized and noticeably larger than the worms on most home corkscrews.
All three knives in the Nomad Cooking Kit With Bottle Opener Knife feature:
- blades that lock in both open and closed positions via Opinel's famous Virobloc
- 12C27 Sandvik Stainless Steel blades
- varnished beechwood handles
- French-Rustic design that is beautiful to look at and a joy to use
Made In France.
The beechwood cutting board comes unfinished in plain wood. You can continue to use it in its unfinished state or oil it with a food-safe oil like Opinel Maintenance Oil to protect the beechwood against water intrusion, warping, and food stains. Maintenance Oil will also protect the blades against corrosion and keep the Viroblocs turning smoothly.
Keep all of your cutlery nice and sharp. Not only will your blades be more effective when they are sharp, they will actually be safer to use because they will cut with less pressure than a dull blade and behave much more predictably.
There is no single or "best" way to sharpen cutlery, because we all have our different preferences and skill levels. Different sharpening methods will also suit different blade shapes and sizes, and you probably would not use the same sharpening tool on a pocketknife and sword. To make the matter even less universal, some prefer to sharpen at home while others sharpen in the field, so the "best" sharpening tools will necessarily differ. Excellent ways to sharpen include:
- Edge Pro Sharpening System
- Hults Bruk Grinding Stone
- Opinel Manual Knife Sharpener
- Opinel Small Natural Sharpening Whetstone from Lombardia
Opinel Part Number - 002614
