Snow Peak Extension IGT (CK-090)

The Snow Peak Extension IGT is a different interpretation of the popular Snow Peak Iron Grill Table System and suits people who want the ability to change out different burners or IGT inserts, but who do not require or even want all of the Iron Grill Table's nearly endless possibilities.  Many people get a kick out the Iron Grill Table's modularity, but some users (like the people who have trouble assembling IKEA furniture or their kids' bikes) have trouble wrangling all of the Iron Grill Table's various pieces and would prefer something that always stays together.

The Extension IGT has unique dimensions.  The tabletop space measures 33" x 20" (the same as Snow Peak's Three-Unit Iron Grill Table Frame) when the bamboo tabletops are closed, but the tabletop space measures a very large 53" x 20" when the bamboo tabletops are slid open fully.  53" is very wide (fully 10" wider than even the very large four-unit Iron Grill Table Frame), and yet the Extension IGT still transports easily in vehicle trunks and back seats.

The Extension IGT is not as modular as the standard Iron Grill Table.  The Extension IGT will not accept legs of different heights because its folding legs are integral with the frame and the height of the tabletop is fixed at 16" ("Low" height in Snow Peak parlance).  The Extension IGT is also not expandable on all four sides of the frame or even under it like the standard Iron Grill Table.  Instead, the Extension IGT's two bamboo tabletops are integral with the frame and do not remove.  In exchange for the loss of modularity, the Extension IGT provides simplicity.  Everything always stays together with the Extension IGT, so there are no parts to lose or forget to pack or to forget how to assemble.

Note the fixed 16" height.  If you currently use your standard Iron Grill Table at the "Low" height of 400mm or if you already have and enjoy Snow Peak tatami tables, then you will love the Extension IGT.  If you cannot sit on the ground tatami style without fatigue or aches (and a great many people cannot), then the Extension IGT will not be for you.

While the legs do not interchange and there are no add-ons on the sides or under the frame, the Extension IGT is still an "IGT" because the two bamboo tabletops can slide to the side to reveal the space for one or two Iron Grill Table Units.  Thus, the Extension IGT will hold a combination of the following pieces:

While IGT grills like the Snow Peak IGT Double BBQ Box, Snow Peak IGT BBQ Box, and Snow Peak Grill Burner Seppo-en will physically fit into the Extension IGT, Snow Peak recommends against their use in the Extension IGT because these pieces get extremely hot and can scorch the Extension IGT's bamboo tabletops.  To prevent burning of the bamboo tabletops, two stainless steel shields are provided with the Extension IGT.  However, some users have reported bamboo burning even with the shields and thus Snow Peak recommends using the Extension IGT only with gas burners.  Another option is to use a one-unit grill like the IGT BBQ Box or Grill Burner Seppo-en sandwiched between two Snow Peak IGT Stainless Half Unit Trays to separate the hot grills from the bamboo.  Such a combination would protect the bamboo for sure.

A black nylon carry tote is included.  If you want to store or transport your Extension IGT together with accessories, the Extension IGT will also fit into the Snow Peak Gear Tote M, which has a larger capacity and additional storage pockets.

If you like the low height and fixed legs of the Extension IGT but want something that can be expanded sideways with various bamboo wings and tabletops, there is the Snow Peak Entry IGT, which has fixed legs but otherwise performs like the popular Snow Peak Iron Grill Table Frame Only and accepts the same add-ons.

Similar to the Entry IGT but with a much higher level of design and finish is the Snow Peak IGT Slim, which has more of a wire style of frame and solid teak pieces.
